Christmas Pets

Christmas is right around the corner and I just wanted to stress that even though there are lots of us wanting puppies and kitties and horsies for Christmas the pets that we get are for life. So please if you’re going to be getting a new pet for Christmas remember that your pet is yours for life not just for the holiday season. A pet is a HUGE responsibility. Animals are living beings and deserve to be treated as such. That means food, water, shelter, medical care. So if you’re not ready for that responsibility don’t take the chance.

If after weighing all the options you do decide to bring a new addition to the family please don’t buy. ADOPT! There are too many animals in shelters dying while people buy from breeders, puppy mills, and pet stores.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas and remember your loved ones and fur folk alike.

A dog fighting ring has been broken up in one Eastern Carolina county with the arrest of nine people.

Halifax County deputies say it was located on Bellamy’s Mill Road in Enfield. They found some 20 people and two Pit Bulls fighting in a ring.

Three dogs were seized, two of them badly injured. Deputies also seized 9 vehicles, three handguns and some marijuana.

The nine arrested are:

Charles Rives, 26, of Whitakers was charged with dog fighting, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of marijuana.

Osaze Addae, 35, of Richmond VA was charged with dog fighting.

William Harris, 33, of Elizabeth City was charged with dog fighting.

Anthony Wright 33, of Richmond VA was charged with dog fighting,
possession of a firearm by felon and altering a serial number on a weapon.

Corey Sledge, 21, of Whitakers was charged with dog fighting.

Ervin Brothers, 30, of Elizabeth City was charged with dog fighting.

Richard Robinson, 32, of Richmond VA was charged with dog fighting.

Vernon Perry, 42, of Elizabeth City was charged with dog fighting.
