Wanted For Dogfighting

Posted by la reina de chanclas on January 19, 2008

Well this is close to home as it’s just a few counties away from here. I don’t think I will ever understand people.

This animal cruelty case is featured on Pet-Abuse.Com. The full case can be found by clicking here.

The Gates County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man accused of dogfighting. When officers searched the property they found two dead dogs and four alive, but malnourished. The animals were being kept in small cages and were tied to heavy chains.

The Gates County Sheriff’s Department says these dogs were being trained for fighting. A tip led deputies to Hudgins lane where the dogs were found.

“When I got there I found two dead dogs that were in various stages of decomposing. Four of the pit bulls that were still alive were chained up with heavy chains,” explains Gates County Deputy, Lacey Wilkins.

Officers tell WAVY.com that the dogs didn’t have food or water and the man responsible is 18-year-old Joe Outland.

The cages and crates can still be seen on Outland’s property, but Outland is nowhere to be found and is now wanted on felony dogfighting charges.

A 15 pound chain was found on a 25 pound dog. The chain is used to make the dog’s muscles stronger. Officers seized bottles of dog vitamins and steroids.

“I’m out here to get them…It’s not fair to these dogs…They can’t defend themselves. They can’t speak for themselves, so here I am to do it for them,” further explained Deputy Wilkins.

Gates County deputies say dogfighting is a growing problem in the area. A problem they want stopped now and they believe a bust like this sends a message.

All four dogs were considered aggressive and had to be euthanized.

Outland is charged with 10 misdemeanors, two counts each of restraining a dog in an inhumane manner and failing to dispose of a dead animal carcass. He also faces six counts of cruelty to animals.

The latest charge against Outland is a felony dogfighting charge which stems from items found at the scene suggesting dogfighting.
